Lloyd George Hoeft, Sr., 86, of Wausau, left this life to be with the Lord, Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Mt. View Care Center in Wausau. Lloyd was born April 14, 1925 in Wausau to Elsie (Grebe) and George Hoeft.
On May 8, 1948, Lloyd married the love of his life, Mary Ann (Borchardt), who he met while working as a cab driver. They celebrated 63 wonderful years together. Lloyd worked very hard throughout his life. At the age of 15 he worked for relatives on their farms. He also worked as a cab driver, ship builder on the Edmund Fitzgerald, at the city lumberyard, and owned his own company – Hoeft's Custom Builders.
He loved his family, friends, fishing, hunting, bowling, making people laugh, and most importantly, spreading God's word.
Lloyd and Mary Ann moved to Atlanta, GA in January 1983 where he continued to grow his business. His work there included rebuilding of Dave's Night Club and the Governor's Mansion. They moved back to Wausau in 1993. He worked on small building projects until his retirement in 1996. While retired he delivered flowers for Sorenson's Floral Shop. After leaving Sorenson's, Lloyd became the building caretaker for City Walk Retirement Community.
He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Dementia, and although he eventually lost awareness of his loved ones, he continued to make people laugh and preach the word of Christ.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; children, Sandra (Dick) Arps of Little Chute, WI, Vivian (William) Colassacco of Kaukauna, WI, Jacqueline (Gary) Spulak of town of Rib Mountain, WI, Luann Taves of Alpharetta, GA, Pennie Hoeft of Canton, GA, Lloyd (Nancy) Hoeft, Jr. of Murfreesboro, TN, and Dawn (Steven) Sheriff of Winder, GA; special granddaughter, Michelle (Jamie) Dever of Cumming, GA; a sister-in-law; cousins, nieces, and nephews.
