Lorraine Becker

February 18, 1916 — March 9, 2011

Lorraine V. Becker, 95 passed away peacefully on March 9, 2011. She was a resident of the Colonial Manor since 2009. Lorraine was born on the Kempf family farm near Mararthon, Wisconsin on February 18, 1916, and was the 7th child of nine brothers and one sister born to her parents Albert and Selma Kempf. On February 25, 1939, she was united in marriage in Marathon to the late Glen C. Becker.

Throughout her life she made every day a masterpiece as a loving wife, mother, Sunday school teacher, entrepreneur, musician and author. Her faith and her family were always the center of her life. In 1952 Lorriane became the Wausau representative for J.R. Watkins Company which she operated successfully for 15 years, then was employed at Aspirus Hospital until her retirement in 1980. In their retirement Glen and Lorraine enjoyed the winter months in Bushnell, Florida for the next 17 years. Whether in Florida or Wisconsin fishing was their passion and as a life long piano player, Lorriane spent endless hours playing and recording her music. Among her many interests and activities were science, history, writing, reading, cooking and gardening.

Inspired by her granddaughter Ann's interest in her life she began writing an autobiography in 1998 that she completed in 2003. Titled "Sharing Life's Journey" it was published in 2006 and copies of her book now reside at the Marathon County Historical Museum, the Wisconsin Historical Museum and The Library of Congress in Washington D.C.

She is survived by her sons Wayne and Bob, both of Wausau, five grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death are Glen, her husband of 60 years, her son Kenny, her sister Freda Cain and Kempf brothers, Walter, Herbert, Ernest, Werner, Arnold, Elmer, Norton, Alfred and Melvin.

Services to welcome Lorriane to the Glory of God will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church on Saturday March 19, 2011 with visitation from 10:00am, the funeral at 12:00 and a luncheon to follow.
