Lorraine I. Yonke, 87, Wausau died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
She was born July 31, 1923 in Stevens Point, daughter of the late Fred and Martha (Neuman) Brown and grew up in Junction City, WI where she married Lloyd Yonke on July 27, 1946. He preceded her in death on September 6, 1986 after celebrating 41 years of marriage.
Lorraine worked at Marathon Battery in Wausau during the war years and after marriage, the couple worked his family's dairy farm in the Town of Easton and then moved to Wausau in 1965. They were very active in Zion Lutheran Church, Town of Easton after helping to build the church building. Lorraine also volunteered at Bethesda and enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking, and gardening.
She is survived by her siblings, Dorothy Jahns of Rib Mountain, Kenneth (Clara) Brown of Wisconsin Rapids, Frederick (Gertie) Brown of Junction City; sister-in-law, Vina Brown of Wisconsin Rapids; special nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her siblings George and Charles Brown and Edna Skibba.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Town of Easton. Reverend David Faulkner will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, October 18, 2010 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau resuming at 10:00 AM until the service on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family extends their sincere appreciation to Dr. Reising and Dr. Costa and the staff of the Cardiac ICU at Aspirus Wausau Hospital as well as to Dr. Asplund and staff for their very compassionate care of Lorraine.
