Louise F. Hanke, 92, Marathon, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the Hospice House under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.
Louise was born March 1, 1921 in Wausau to the late Otto and Hulda (Wandry) Golisch and grew up on the family farm in the Town of Stettin. Prior to marring Ervin C. Hanke on November 10, 1945 in Wausau, she worked for Marathon Electric. Louise tended ginseng gardens for various growers for over 30 years. In her later years, Louise compassionately volunteered to sit with patients overnight at Memorial Hospital so that they would not be alone while recuperating. Louise and Ervin celebrated 47 wonderful years together prior to his death on January 27, 1993.
Louise was a determined woman who had an endless love for her children and grandchildren. She was very outgoing and friendly, making several friends with nothing more than a kind word and a smile. Louise had a great love of food, always making sure that no one left her home without being well fed. It was a great treat to go out for dinner and she always enjoyed a good Friday Night Fish Fry. Louise also had a great love of all animals and truly cherished all of the time she spent in her garden growing flowers and vegetables. One of her favorite pastimes was fishing along the Big Rib River, first with her husband then with her son, Steve and later with her grandsons. Louise was a member of a Ladies Club in Marathon for over 25 years.
Louise is survived by her children, Sharon (David) Aschenbrenner, Susanne Hanke and Steve Hanke; grandsons, Craig (Jodi) Aschenbrenner and their children, Hunter and Taylor and Christopher (Heidi) Aschenbrenner and their children, William and Luke; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her twin brother, Louis Golisch; siblings, Gertrude Golisch, Florence Hass, Bernice Koy, Laura Kalbes, Milford Golisch and Roy Golisch; and an infant daughter.
A memorial service in celebration of Louise's life will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 21 at Saint Paul's United Church of Christ, Wausau. Pastor Keane Foster will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of services at the church. There will be an inurnment at Resstlawn Memorial Park at a later date. Helke Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with the arrangements and you may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com.

Also, a very special word of thanks goes to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services Hospice House doctors, nurses and staff for their compassionate care of Louise and her family.
