Luther Polege

Luther "Bud" Arnold Polege was born on December 12, 1921, in Tomahawk, WI, to the late Otto and Minnie Polege. He was called to his heavenly home while at Wausau Manor on May 5, 2011.

Luther attended elementary school in Tomahawk, and graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served on the U.S.S. Ogelthorpe, in the South Pacific, and was honorably discharged in 1945.

Bud married Grace Wicke on September 29, 1946; and raised four children, Donald, Robert, Mary, and Charles. After their marriage, Luther was employed by Nick and Sons Casket Factory, in Tomahawk. He attended technical school and became employed by Polege Brothers Plumming in Tomahawk, where he worked from 1947-1952; and George Baumgardt Plumbing and Heating, in Wausau, from 1952-1965. From 1965 until retirement, Bud worked for Union Local 434, in Wausau.

During retirement, he worked as the manager of Mt. View Apartments, Wausau. Luther had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau, from 1952, until his death. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife, Grace; sons, Donald (Sharolyn) Polege and Charlie Polege; daughter, Mary (George) Wilson; grandchildren, Mark Polege, Joshua (Cynthia) Polege, Michelle (Roland) Sorensen, David Polege, Jeremy Llewellyn; and great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kayla, Zachary, and Joshua Sorensen.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Hazel Jackson and Florella Trantow; brothers, Urial, Orlaf, Sylvester, and Eldridge; and his son, Robert Polege.

A celebration of Bud's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Reverend Gary Schultz will officiate. Military honors will be provided by V.F.W. Burns Post No. 388, Wausau. Burial will follow at approximately 1:45 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery, Tomahawk. Family will receive guests from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service, Monday, at the church.
