Lyle Wayne Dietrich, 63, Wausau, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 at the Hospice House, Wausau, after an extended illness.
Lyle was born on August 11, 1944 in Tomahawk, WI to parents Gladys L. (Fortney) and the late William Ira Lyle Dietrich. He graduated from Merrill High School in 1963. Lyle served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1971, serving overseas in Korea. On February 1, 1969, Lyle was united in marriage to Barbara Wiensch at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Wausau. Lyle and Barbara spent thirty-nine years together prior to his death.
Lyle was an avid football fan and unofficial Packers statistician. He was a quiet hard worker throughout his life. Lyle worked for Wausau Metals for twenty-six years and later for Kolbe & Kolbe for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the golf league for many years.
Lyle is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara of Wausau; daughter, Amy (Matthew) Schlinkert of Portage; grandsons, Alexander and Mark; mother, Gladys (Ralph) Hintze of Merrill; brother, William (Gladys) Dietrich of Mosinee; and sister, Wanda Helvey of Merrill. He is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Diane (Kenneth) Krenz.
Rev. David Faulkner will be officiating. Military rites will be performed by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post 10 at the funeral home following the memorial service.
