Lyle Prechel

February 24, 1943 — March 22, 2014

Lyle Prechel, 71, Wausau, passed away peacefully at Kennedy Park Medical & Rehab on Saturday, March 22, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Lyle was born February 24, 1943 to the late Adela (Juedes) and Clarence Prechel.

In 1962, he married Louise Matuszak. The couple had one son, Lyle Jr. On February 21, 1984, he married Marlyn O'Brien. She preceded him in death in 1999.

Lyle was a route salesman for Double Cola Bottling for 28 years and then finished his career at Old Dutch, retiring in 2003. It was a perfect job for him because he always had a smile on his face and a gift of gab, no matter where he was or who he met.

Lyle was an avid pool player, gathering many first-place trophies through the years. He loved collecting antique cars, and had a special place in his heart for his 1965 Riviera. He enjoyed dancing and could kick up his heels with the best of them. He cared for his dogs throughout the years with tender loving care and was truly convinced that they were human beings, not just animals.

Besides his parents and wife, Marlyn, he was preceded in death by his brother, Levi.

Survivors include his son, Lyle Jr. (Polly), Marshfield; a very special stepson, Randy (Amy) O'Brien, Weston; brother, Gary (Kaye) Prechel, Avon Park, Florida, his care givers from the onset of his disease.

A funeral service will be at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 27th, at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce Street, Wausau; with Reverend Nancy Johnson Russell officiating. Family will receive guests on Thursday, at the funeral home, from 4 p.m. until the time of service. Private burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Thanks to all the staff and care givers at Kennedy Park and a special thanks to Dr. Nietert for all the special care given to Lyle. You kept him smiling until the end.

To the best brother and friend in the world, we love you, Lyle. We will miss you until we're together again.
