Lyle Freiberg, age 77, passed away peacefully with family by his side on November 12, 2024, after a nine-year fight against cancer stemming from exposure to Agent Orange.
Lyle was born July 5th, 1947, in Wausau, WI to Norman and Marion Freiberg. Lyle married Darlene Yustus on September 6, 1980 in San Diego, CA. In April of 1983 they welcomed their first son, Zachary. After moving back to Wausau to be closer to their parents, Lyle and Darlene welcomed their second son, Casey, in April of 1991.
Lyle proudly served his country during the Vietnam conflict, in the U.S Navy as a 2nd class petty officer, serving aboard the USS James E. Kyes from 1967-1970. Upon leaving the Navy, Lyle worked as a low voltage electrician. Lyle was working for Simplex/Grinnell, later Tyco, at the time of his retirement in 2016. Lyle still could name each building he had worked in and name the maintenance staff at each building as well. Every place he worked he left a lasting impression that stands to this day. Current employees at Tyco still hear tales about Lyle from their customers and how much he's been missed since his retirement.
Lyle stayed busy during his retirement by serving as Post Commander for American Legion Post 10, serving on the Honor Guard with American Legion Post 10 and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America in many different facets. Lyle also took tremendous pride in his family and supported his sons in their many endeavors and hobbies. Lyle also happily supported his wife in her ventures of small business ownership and traveling around the state with her during the summers helping her at the craft fairs she loved to be a vendor at.
Unfortunately, an obituary can only be so long, which a thing of so few words cannot do justice for the type of man that Lyle was. Lyle left a lasting impression on everyone he met, with no one ever able to say a bad word about him.
Lyle is survived by his son Zachary (Rachel Rhyner) Freiberg; siblings Gary (Janice) Freiberg, Charles (Christine) Freiberg and Phyllis (Steve) Varsos; and many nieces and nephews.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Norman and Marion Freiberg, his wife Darlene Freiberg and son Casey Freiberg.
