Lynn Karen Marquardt, 76, Town of Maine, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau following a courageous battle with cancer.
Lynn was born February 27, 1939 in Wausau to the late Walter and Lorna (Luedtke) Voeltzke. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1957 and worked in the Marathon County Clerk's office for the next five years. On October 8, 1961, Lynn married the love of her life whom she had met in high school, James Marquardt. The couple moved to Fort Lewis, Washington when James was stationed there during the Berlin Crisis. Lynn and James moved back to the Town of Maine and settled into their life as dairy farmers while raising their sons; Thomas and Brian.
Lynn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who took her role as the matriarch of the family very seriously. Her happiest times were spent taking care of the family from cooking wonderful meals at the holidays to making her famous pancakes for grandchildren. Lynn was a dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church since 1962 and lived her faith, sharing it with her family and friends. She helped to start the soup supper and Easter breakfast at church. Free time often found her volunteering at Wausau Manor with James, listening to him play the organ and spending time at the family cottage on Lake Somo. Her family will always remember Lynn's favorite endearment, "I love you to the moon and back, who could love you more than that."
Lynn is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, James; sons, Thomas (fiancé, Debra Whitman) Marquardt and Brian (Amy) Marquardt; grandchildren, Collin, Carson, Mariah and Dylan; sister, Gayle (Frank Balistreri) Sullivan; niece, Kim (Bruno) Sullivan; aunt, Berdine Kroll and extended family and friends.
