Mae Wetmore

Mae Frieda Wetmore, 83, passed peacefully into eternal life on Friday, September 21, 2012, after fighting a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born to Henry and Elsie (Becker) Adams in the Town of Halsey, Marathon Co., on May 28, 1929.

Mae grew up working on the Adams family farm. She also worked for several families in the area as a live-in child care provider. Mae moved to Wausau in 1946 and took a job in the kitchen at the old Memorial Hospital. It was there that she met her husband, Les. Mae and Les were married on April 15, 1950 in Hancock, WI. They operated the family farm there until they retired and moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1996.

Mae is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leslie, her sons, Daniel (Cathy) Wetmore and Rev. David (Louise) Wetmore, 5 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and 5 of her sisters: Hilda Schultz, Marshfield; Delores (Myron) Denzine, Wausau; Margaret Holbach, Wausau; Germaine Dietsch, Missouri; and Alvina "Dolly" Whiteside, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Donald, her siblings Henry Jr. "Sonny" Adams, Chester "Schotzy" Adams, Lena Becker, Mildred Tadyach, and Viola Sellung.

Mae thrived on being busy. She loved cooking, dancing, little children, had a great sense of humor, and rarely missed with her .22 rifle.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1300 Townline Road, Wausau, with Rev. Richard Kelm officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 at the church.
