Margaret Ann "Marge" Beckman, 84, went to be with her husband, Roger on November 11, 2016, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's. She passed peacefully at home.
Margaret was born on February 11, 1932 to Walter and Mildred (Ainsworth) Kurth in Wausau, where she lived all her life and attended Wausau High School. She married Roger Beckman, the love of her life on April 25, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 23, 2015. Their 62-year relationship of faithful love has been an inspiration to the family, and a wonderful heritage.
Margaret and Roger enjoyed many years of camping together; fishing trips to Canada with dear friends Ross & June Plant; annual trips to Florida to celebrate holidays with their daughter and her husband; traveling in their RV; family get-togethers and cookouts; and especially Christmases. They were faithful members and servants at Grace United Church of Christ their entire married life and had many long-time friends there. For many years, Marge was the head of Willing Workers, organizing and serving funeral meals for others.
Margaret was what you call a professional homemaker. She cared meticulously for the home and served her family selflessly. When her children grew and began having children of their own, she served again very selflessly. We all have special memories of family get-togethers at our parents' home; huge meals cooked and served by her. All her grandchildren received a set of silverware for their future homes. We each also received a box of homemade ornaments for our Christmas trees. She sewed countless sets of dishtowels for her family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Jeffrey Beckman; Barbara (Gary) Schoenherr, both of Wausau; Ellen Beckman (Tom Carney) of Lake Worth, FL; and Nancy Meverden (Greg Behrendt) also of Wausau; six grandchildren: Becky (Andy) Jones, Amy (Stan) Thrall, Pam Schoenherr and Eric Schoenherr, Kimberly Meverden and Kelly Meverden; and two great-grand daughters, Katie and Karah Lysne. She is also survived by her brother, Wally (Dawn) Kurth of Merrill and long-time dear friends, Ross and June Plant of Kronenwetter.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 11:00am at Grace United Church of Christ, 535 S 3rd Ave, Wausau. Reverend Julie Goranson will officiate. Visitation will be 9:00am until the time of the service. A meal will follow the service at the church. Committal services will then take place at Restlawn Memorial Park, 4710 N Troy St, Wausau. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the loving caretakers from Visiting Angels, as well as the staff at Interim Hospice Care. Their respectful, loving, tender care of our mom/grandma was a deep comfort for us, and Mom's wish to pass away at home was granted.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outer man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things that are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things that are not seen are eternal. For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens" (2 Corinthians 4:17-5:1).
