Marie was born April 3, 1940 in Heafford Junction, WI, the daughter of the late Harold Fredrick and Frieda Johanna (Pagel) Selmer. Her childhood was filled with fond memories of the times spent on Deer Lake with family and friends. She graduated from Tomahawk High School and moved to Wausau, where she attended beauty school. On September 30, 1961, she was united in marriage to Charles Robert Eugene Goers, in Tomahawk, WI. She and Charles settled in Wausau to raise their daughters, becoming members of Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau, and living in the same neighborhood for 41 years.
She worked many different jobs throughout her life, including D & M Beauty Shop, Arlan’s, Joan’s Craft Shop, Langhoff’s Country Store, Kreger’s Kountry Oven Bakery, and 29 Supermarket. Her wide variety of jobs highlighted her many talents, especially her love for baking and cooking. Marie delighted in being around those she loved and the more people there were the better.
