Marilyn J. Strehlow was a dedicated daughter, sister, and aunt. Her strong Christian faith sustained her throughout her life and especially during her lengthy illness.
At the age of 81, Marilyn passed away at Lili II Assisted Living on Thursday, December 19, 2013 under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.
Marilyn was born January 17, 1932 in Wausau to the late Arwin and Angela (Christian) Strehlow. She graduated from Wausau High School in 1950 and started her career as a secretary at Employers' Mutual. She moved to Milwaukee and enjoyed her work as an executive secretary for Badger Meter. Marilyn returned to the Wausau area in 1977 and worked until her retirement as an administrative assistant for Marathon County Social Services.
She was an avid genealogist and member of the Marathon County Genealogy Society. She compiled information for the Genealogy Society on the early residents of Marathon County. Marilyn was a voracious reader and also enjoyed taking scenic road trips. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Wausau.
Marilyn is survived by two brothers, Arwin (Gloria) of Houston, TX and James (Marlene) of Rothschild. She is further survived by nieces, Carla (Kevin) Aldrich and their children Bryan (Marissa Matzke) and Brianna (fiance Kyle Cook), Lynne Strehlow and her son Derek (Jamie) and their daughter Eva, Lisa (Chris) Marquardt and their son Isaac, Stacy (Joe) Perkinson and their children Ethan and Emily of Houston, TX; nephew Kevin (Jessica) and their son Jackson of Houston, TX; and many more extended family and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St. Wausau. Visitation will be at Helke Funeral Home beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. The Reverend Rick Kelm will be officiating. Burial will take place in the Town of Berlin Cemetery in the spring.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Christ Lutheran Church of Wausau, Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, or the Shriners Hospital for Children of Minneapolis, MN.
A heartfelt word of thanks goes out to the staff of Lili II and the Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their dedicated care of Marilyn in her last years.
