Martha Sack

Martha Sack, age 97 of Wausau, died Friday, January 15, 2016 at Aspirus Hospice House. She was born April 28, 1918 in Tampere, Finland, daughter of the late Leonard and Aili (Eilola) Hintsala of Ispheming, Michigan. She married William Arthur Sack on September 7, 1942 in Boyne City, Michigan. He preceded her in death on August 23, 1989.
Martha graduated from Ispheming High School in 1937. She attended Northern Michigan Teacher College and began teaching in Boyne City. Bill and Martha moved to Kalamazoo where she worked in the public library. After moving to Wausau, Bill taught at NTC and Martha was employed at U.W.M.C. in the library until her retirement in 1983.
For many years Martha resided at Forest Park Village also volunteering in their library. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church helping in the church library and a member of the Hill Toppers. She enjoyed attending concerts and the theatre. Martha was an avid reader. She enjoyed time in nature with visits to the Northwoods and state parks. Her favorite bird was the Cardinal with Lupines and Gladiolas as her favorite flowers.
Martha's family consisted of her "adopted one", Dennis and Gwen Carey, daughters Brenda(John) Schick and Vicki (Michael) Glassbrenner, and grandchildren Ali, Craig, Mara, Caroline, Molly and Sam. Her very special friends, Judy Palmateer, Sandra and Keith Schrgerlucke, Sandy Schneider and others. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and in-laws, William and Selma Sack.
A celebration of Martha's life will be held at 10:00 on Thursday, January 21, 2016 in the chapel at Wesley Methodist Church, 1101 Elm St., Wausau. Reverend Sue Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Northland Chapel Garden, Negaunee, MI. Visitation will be Thursday at the church chapel from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In memory of Martha and her love of nature, a bench will be placed at Monk Botanical Garden. Memorials may be given towards the bench, the Humane Society of Marathon County or Aspirus Hospice House.
