Mary K. Gummo, 89, of Wausau died Saturday March 6, 2010 at Our House Senior Living Memory Care.
Mary was born August 3, 1920 in Yakima, Wash. to the late Robert and Hannah (Kosch) Hess. She married Charles Gummo on April 29, 1944 in Medford, WI. Charles preceded her in death on October 19, 1990.
Mary retired from Wausau Public Schools as head of payroll and data processing after 22 years of service. She was an active volunteer for her church and community. Her free time was dedicated in helping others. Mary was a member of First United Methodist Church participating in Martha Circle and various boards and committees. She founded the Retired Secretaries Group, volunteered at the Talent Shop, and played the piano for seniors during local AARP meetings and local senior care centers.
Survivors include one daughter, Ann (Skip) Maletzke of Mountain, WI., one son, Larry (Mary) Gummo of Plover, WI. four grandchildren; Charles (Danna) Gummo of Rapids City, S.D., Debora (Tim) Johnson of Atlanta, GA., Sarah Losurdo of Clarksridge, Ark., and Ben Maletzke of Pullman, Wash., seven great grandchildren; Brett Gummo, Macey and Grady Johnson, Bryce and Contessa Losurdo, and Brennan and Adelyn Maletzke, and two brothers; Bill (Phyllis) Hess of Cinnaminson, NJ, and Edward (Joyce) Hess of Wisconsin Rapids.
Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by one sister Alice Lodholz and two brothers Robert and James Hess.
Memorial services will be at Noon, Saturday March 13, 2010 at the Helke Funeral Home,Wausau. The Reverend Jerry Morris will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
