Mary Ann Schaller will be best remembered by her ever present smile and upbeat attitude. Her usual answer when anyone asked her how she was: "Everything is just fine." She loved her family and especially loved spending time with her grandsons, Jon, Jason and Justin and going to their various sporting events. She had an active 84 years of life. Mary Ann was an avid Bridge player, playing in numerous card clubs in the area. She liked to dine out and enjoyed watching the Packers. Mary Ann was a lifelong member of Wesley United Methodist Church, a past choir member, money counter and a member of various circles including the Hilltoppers.
She was born May 16, 1926 in Wausau to the late William and Anna (Schroeder) Krause. Mary Ann graduated from Wausau Senior High School and later met her future husband, John Schaller on a blind date. They were married on March 17, 1956 at the Rectory of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. She had been employed at Benson Optical and retired from the JC Penney Catalogue Department. Mary Ann and John were blessed with two daughters, Peggy and Patty. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and going on road trips around the US and in her later years, Door County. Her Swedish meatballs will continue as our Christmas tradition.
On Tuesday, October 12, 2010 Mary Ann passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Schaller of Wausau, Patricia (Paul) Peters of Wausau, three grandsons, Jon, Jason, Justin, special nephew, William (Terry) Schaller of Portage, sister-in-law, Patricia Krause of Weston, cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, friends, two granddogs and two grandcats. Mary Ann was preceded in death by John on September 27, 1981, two sisters, Ardell Krause and Jean Krause Darrin, and three brothers, Silas, William, and Charles Krause.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Wausau. Reverend Karen Ebert will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services in the Fireside Chapel at Wesley United Methodist Church. Helke Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established in Mary Ann's name.
