Melvin G. Benz, 73, of rural Wausau passed away Monday, September 15, 2015 at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston.
Melvin was born April 25, 1942 in Lena, WI, Oconto Country son of the late Gerhardt and Agnes (Patzer) Benz. He attended grade school at the Farewell School and then graduated from East High in Wausau and after serving his country in the Army National Guard as a Corporal First Class, he attended North Central Technical College in Wausau.
Melvin was united in marriage to Laura Stolz on September 14, 1963 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in the Town of Hewitt. He was employed as a Journeyman Machinist for Graphic Package in Wausau for 42 years until his retirement. He was a member of Local 224.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Easton. He served on the finance committee and as a trustee.
Melvin enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his beef cattle and farming for 40 years, fishing, woodworking, deer hunting and making maple syrup. He even built a zip line to move sap across the creek. One of the best things about Melvin was that he always had time to help others, could make you laugh, and had a twinkle in his beautiful blue eyes.
He is survived by his wife Laura, three children; Tammy (David) Landwehr of Edger, WI, Timothy (Cathy) Benz and Terry Benz both of Wausau, seven grandchildren; Melani, and Jazmin Landwehr, Carter, Tejana and Anthony Benz, Keagen and Paxton Benz.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the St. John Lutheran Church, Town of Easton E10723 County RD Z, Wausau with Rev. Mark Lewis officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. until the time of services at the church.
