Melvin "Ike" Isakson, 83, of Wausau, died Sunday May 25, 2008 at Mount View Care Center.
Ike was born December 15, 1924 in Merrill to the late Martin and Anna (Gehrke) Isakson. He served in the United States Army during WWII from 1941-1945. Ike married Helen Henke on June 9, 1951 in Pine City, Minn. He was a member of the VFW Burns Post #388. and the First Presbyterian Church of Wausau. Ike enjoyed going to polka dances and loved to drive, especially on the back roads.
Survivors include his wife Helen of Wausau, two daughters Caren (Ted) Kowalski of Plover and Sandra Korlaske of Wausau, three sons Bruce (Ann) Isakson of Wausau, Gary (Sharon) Isakson of Wausau, and Mark (Kim) Isakson of Mosinee, 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and one brother Raymond (Patricia) Isakson of Chassell, Mich.
Ike was preceded in death by one brother Anton.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday June 2, 2008 at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Officiating will be the Reverend Joy Nelson-Jeffers. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
