Melvin Kaetterhenry

December 5, 1922 — May 14, 2008

Melvin Kaetterhenry, 85, of Wausau, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday evening, May 14, 2008 at home. He was born December 5, 1922, in rural Marathon County, to the late Otto and Amanda (Hess) Kaetterhenry.

Melvin was a WWII veteran serving in the Army Air Force. On July 8, 1944, he married Ruby Lucht at Bible Truth Assembly, Wausau. They built the family home on Cherry Street where they raised their children, Dennis, Keith, and Debra. He was a longtime service manager at the Wausau Garage followed by being owner/operator of Wausau Dairy Vending, from which they retired in 1987. Melvin was a lifelong member of Bible Truth Assembly/Chapel.

He loved, and was greatly loved by, his family and especially his grandkids and great grandkids and all kids -- many of whom affectionately called him "Grandpa Mel". Melvin greatly enjoyed spending hours in his basement shop turning pens and creating a wide variety of woodcrafts. He was a skilled mechanic who could fix, build, fine tune most anything. He and his family loved spending time together at their cabin on Lake Mildred near Rhinelander.

Immediate survivors include his wife of 64 years, Ruby; two sons, Dennis (Laurie) Kaetterhenry of White Bear Lake, MN, Keith (Jodie) Kaetterhenry of Middleton; one daughter, Debra (Charles) Palmer of Rochester, MN; 11 grandchildren, Christine (Joe) Highland, Karin and Kelli Kaetterhenry, Sarah (Kris) Murphy, Brian (Katie) Kaetterhenry, Mark Kaetterhenry, Melisa (Joe) Johnston, Emily Kaetterhenry, Bradley (Lee) Palmer, Corey (Rachel) Palmer, Cassandra Palmer; 7 great grandchildren, Hailey, Jaeden, Iris, Ava, Abby, Gavyn, Alli; and two brothers, Orville Kaetterhenry of Stevens Point, and Bud (Carol) Kaetterhenry of the town of Weston.

Melvin was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon, and sister Ruth Strunk.

"Blessed are those who die in the Lord. Yes, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest for their good deeds follow them!" Rev 14:21 NLB
