Merlyn Ivan Block, 89, Wausau, died peacefully April 7, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Merlyn was born May 17, 1926 in Wausau to the late Paul and Emma (Krueger) Block. He worked on the family dairy farm with his parents and sister for 39 years before leaving the farm and working for Marathon Box. He retired from Marathon Box as a Chip Master after 25 years with them. Merlyn married Gladys Wilde on April 22, 1971 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau; the couple later separated.
Merlyn was a good father to his sons and wonderful grandfather; always valuing the importance of family in his life. He enjoyed camping, fishing and four-wheeling during the summers and riding his snowmobile with the Trailmates Snowmobile Club in the winters. Merlyn was also an enthusiastic Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers fan.
Merlyn is survived by his loving sons, Paul (Sara) Block and John Block both of Wausau; grandchildren, Ashley and Mitchell; niece, Barbara Nowitzke; nephew, Al Radtke; cousin, Marcella Block; his miniature schnauzer, Schotzy; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Arvilla and Fred Radtke and his nephew, Kenneth Radtke.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 16 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Pastor Ken Albers will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
