Michael Lotz was born October 26, 1990 in Wausau to Bob and Beth (Steidl) Lotz. He graduated from Wausau West High School in 2009 where he was involved in many extracurricular activities. Some of his favorites included drama, tennis, student council, Concert Chorale, intermural hockey and volleyball, DECCA and student leadership. In addition to his extreme love of all sports, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, skiing – anything that was fun and included friends. Life was an amazing adventure for Mike and he took pleasure in every aspect of it. He could often be found cheering for Wisconsin teams either on TV or dressed in all of his fandom at their home fields. His foremost ability was making friends and hanging out with people – he excelled at including everyone in his joy, and his varied interests were simply another way to meet more people to love.
Mike had a desire to serve people and worked hard to bring pleasure into their lives as well. When working at Ski Brule one of his favorite students was a little boy with Down Syndrome. Mike loved teaching him how to ski and his voice could be heard loudly encouraging this student each time he was able to make it just five more feet down the hill. He worked with his dad at the Prosthetic Orthotic Center where he helped to create unique appliances which would make the lives of others more comfortable. He also served a couple of summers doing mission work in the Bahamas, most recently working on sheet rocking and painting small apartments for victims of AIDS, and offering his own particular brand of love and joy to those who lived there.
Mike's life was taken at the age of 24 due to cancer complications. He passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital surrounded by his family. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Beth of Wausau, his sister, Dani (Zeke) Miller and their children, Hannah, Micah, Noah and Josiah of Mason City, IA, and three brothers, Stephen, David and Andrew of Wausau. Mike was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Grant and Barbara Steidl and paternal grandparents, Erwin and Belva Lotz.
Michael Robert Lotz will be remembered for his contagious smile, his passion and enthusiasm for life, his vast shoe collection, Hawaiian shirts, and we will never forget his fanny packs. He welcomed everyone into his family of friends with no hesitation and he loved them. He was the guy who would seek out the loner in the corner and include them in the party that was his life. He had a servant's heart and it was exhilarating just being near him.
