Mildred Schweers

Mildred “Connie” Schweers, 96, died Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Applegate Terrace, Wausau.


Connie was born June 7, 1913 in Mindoro to the late Bert and Effie Congdon. She attended Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1943 to become a Registered Nurse and continued her education at the University of Minnesota, Public Health Nursing School in 1947 earning a B.S. in Public Health Nursing. Connie served in the Army Nurse Corps at the rank of 2 nd Lieutenant. Connie married Ray Schweers, November 11, 1950 in Milwaukee.


Connie was an active member with the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10 Women’s Club and at First Presbyterian Church. In her free time, she enjoyed reading.


Connie is survived by her loving children, Jake Schweers (Nina Valassori) of Madison and Jeanne (Michael) Kumbalek of Perrysburg, OH; grandchildren, Lena Izzo and Rachel Kumbalek; sister-in-law, Thelma Jean Congdon of Galesville; good friends, Pat and Tim Mytton and David and Marilyn Indermuehle. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray; brother, Darwin Congdon; and sister and brother-in-law, Dolores (Howard) O’Neil.


A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 26, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wausau. Pastor Joy Nelson-Jeffers will be officiating. There will be a visitation at First Presbyterian Church on Sunday beginning at 2:00 PM and lasting until the time of services. A private family burial will take place at a later time. You may sign our family guestbook at www.helke.com . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church or the Cancer Society.
