Millicent "Millie" L. Keene, 84, of Wausau passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at home with her family at her side and under the care of Interim Hospice of Wausau.
Millie was born August 4, 1931, in Cameron, WI, the daughter of the late Leonard and Mildred (Amundson) Hanson. She received her education in Wausau and graduated from Wausau Senior High.
On April 10, 1950 in Pine City, MN she married James Keene and they worked together in the tavern business in Wausau for many years. They had the first beer bar in the city of Schofield called Jim's Beer Bar. They later owned and operated Jim and Millie's Hiawatha. Jim and Millie later divorced and she continued to make Wausau her home.
Millie was known for her humorous "Norwegian wit" and enjoyed spending time in her garden, doing crossword puzzles, feeding her birds and watching her soap operas.
She is survived by seven children, Michael (Sol) Keene of Hampton, VA, Timothy Keene, Patrick (fiancé Joni Peterson) Keene, Christopher (Lori) Keene, Tracey Keene, Kerry Scherer all of Wausau and Jackie (David) Klimek of Mosinee, a daughter- in- law Cindy Keene of Wausau, 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandson, one brother Harvey (Terry) Hanson of Rothchild, WI and a sister-in-law Jean Hanson of Wausau.
Millie was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Buster and three sisters, Phyllis, Joanne and Norma.
Private family services will be held at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St, Wausau with burial in Restlawn Memorial Park.
