Milton Gutknecht, 81, of Wausau passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born April 7, 1927 in the town of Rib Falls to the late Martin and Hertha (Utech) Gutknecht. He met his future wife Darlene Graveen while they attended grade school together in the town of Rib Falls. They married at Salem Lutheran Church in the town of Hamburg on September 15, 1951 and have celebrated over 57 years of marriage. Between 1950 and 1952, Milton served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is a member of both the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10 and Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans. In 1988, Milton retired from James River Corp. after 38 years of service where he was also a member of the Century Club. Milton was an active member and volunteer at Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as usher for funerals and weddings, and belonged to the 55+ Club and Joy Center. He enjoyed playing Sheepshead, traveling, listening to Polka music and was known for his vast collection and displays of Christmas Village.
Survivors include his wife Darlene of Wausau, his son, Jeffery (Cheryl) Gutknecht of Wausau, his daughter, Jacqueline (Gordon) Schultz of Weston, one grandson, Timothy Gutknecht, one step granddaughter, Gloria (Scott) Brandt, three step great grandchildren, Courtney, Jarrett, and Devon and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Milton was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Orville (Delores) Gutknecht.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 6, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Wausau. Reverend Matthew Hein will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. We would like to thank the hospice nurses at Aspirus Wausau Hospital for being so kind, helpful, and comforting in the care they gave Dad.
Milton will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
