Milton Imm, 96, Wausau, died Sunday, March 11, 2018 at Wausau Manor under the care of Interim Hospice and Palliative Care.
Milton was born in Wausau on April 7, 1921 to the late Emil and Alice (Dehnel) Imm. He graduated from Wausau High School and went on to faithfully serve his country in the US Army during WWII from August 1942 to December 1945. Milton served in the Pacific Theatre attaining the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning home, he met LaVila Sodke on June 8, 1946 at a Veterans Homecoming Dance at Marathon Park. The couple later married on May 7, 1949. Milton retired from American Can as a supervisor in 1982 with over 30 years of service.
Throughout his life, Milton’s faith and Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewart Avenue, were central in his life. He was baptized, confirmed and married at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. E.H. Bertermann. Milton also served on the church council, finance committee, assisted with both weddings and funerals and sang in the choir with LaVila. The couple also served as youth counselor’s together for 12 years. Milton enjoyed playing the trumpet and had been taught by his father who also played the guitar and drums. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and ballgames.
Milton is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, LaVila; brother-in-law, Donald (Gaye) Sodke; sister-in-law, Luean Auslund; nieces and nephews, Starla Guckenburg, Marlene Johnson, Dawn Roehl, Jonathan Sodke, Adair Spencer, Stephanie Schroeder, Bruce Hecksel, Angela Szanajda, Amanda Boe; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Verna, Martin and Alvin.
The funeral service for Milton will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Stewart Avenue. Rev. Zach Holdorf will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:45 PM at Helke Funeral Home on Thursday, March 15; resuming on Friday at 1:00 PM until the time of service at the church.
