Milton "Sonny" Towle, 96, of Wausau passed away at St. Clare's Hospital, Weston on Wednesday, November 18, 2015.
He was born in Wausau on August 20, 1919 to the late Clarence and Irma (Volkman) Towle. On October 4, 1941, Milt married Bernice "Bunny" Schoepke in Iron River, MI. As a young man, he joined one of the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) in northern Wisconsin. In 2013, Milt, along with some other "CCC boys" were honored at the 80th anniversary of the Federal Works Program held at Trees for Tomorrow in Eagle River, WI. After his two years with the Corps, he was then drafted and served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific from 1942 to 1946. Upon returning from the Army, he started driving truck for Hillside Transit, Albrent Freight and finally for Marathon Electric for 23 years. While there, Milt received many distinguished awards for safe driving and admirable service to the company.
After retirement, he assisted his children in various business ventures. Milt and his wife of 72 years, spent time traveling in their RV touring several states including Alaska and into Canada. They also traveled to Hawaii twice to celebrate their anniversaries. Their RV excursions were shared with their daughter and son-in-law traveling to Texas. Milt's other interests included hunting in remote parts of Alaska and Canada for big game. After Bernice passed away, he enjoyed spending some winter months in South Texas with his daughter.
Milton is survived by his children, Cheryl (Errol) Cradit of Harlingen, Tex., Duayne "Butch" (Pat) of Schofield, Alan (Rosemary) of Wausau, and Kevin (Sheila) of Weston, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two brothers, Jerome (Sandy) Towle of Weston and Clarence (Marie) Towle Jr., of Tomahawk.
