Myrtle Grade

Myrtle Elsie Agnes Scheffler Grade, 92, lifetime resident of the Wausau area, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Monday, October 24, 2011, at Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, WI. She had resided at Our House Senior Living in Wausau since March of 2011. Myrtle was born on September 4, 1919 and spent her childhood learning the skills of farming. She nurtured beautiful flowering plants and productive gardens all her life, became hostess to friends and family alike, known for her tasty home cooking.
Prior to Senior Living, she resided just three blocks from the Wesley United Methodist Church where she and her husband had been faithful members for 50 some years. Hilltoppers was a favorite church organization and the prayer chain further linked Myrtle to church members through service.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, Fred Grade. Surviving also are two daughters and one son and their mates: Blanche Grade Griffin & Justin Michael Griffin Sr., Marie Grade Petersons & James Martin, Donald Frederick Grade & Kristina Quale Grade.
Myrtle's great joys were her three grandsons: Kurt Grade, Erich Grade, and Mark Griffin. Her three step grandchildren were Karen Lake, Justin Griffin Jr. , and Nancy Shadowens. Myrtle is further survived by four beloved great grandchildren: Frazier, Miller, Finley Jane, and Sierra Grade and seven step great grandchildren. Her eldest grandson, Kurt's wife, Jennifer, faithfully and lovingly produced an unending stream of photos and cards she'd created herself which brought much pleasure to Myrtle in her later years.
During her numerous productive years in sales, Myrtle worked for Luther's Cheese House,
Ben Franklin Store, and Prange's Department Store in Wausau. Upon retirement she continued with volunteer selling for Wausau Talent Shop for many years.
When not employed, Myrtle created a variety of craft items and crocheted gifts for family and friends. She and her husband successfully participated in some 20 years of team bowling. Later in life, Myrtle became a competitive Scrabble player, often challenging both visiting family and her dear friend, Kris Schluetter, to a game. Myrtle will be missed!
Funeral services and visitation will be on Friday, October 28 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1101 Elm St., Wausau. Visitation will be at 9:30 am followed by the service at 11:00 am.
