Norma McCabe

Norma Juanita McCabe, 87, of Hamburg, formerly of Wausau, died with her daughters by her side on November 13, 2009, at Milestone Memory Care, Eau Claire, WI.


Norma was born the daughter of the late William and Juanita (Wingate) Thornton, on January 29, 1922, in Vernon County, Missouri. On June 9, 1972, she was united in marriage to Floyd McCabe at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau.


Norma worked as the assistant clerk of court for Marathon County for 27 years until her retirement in 1984. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with Floyd fishing, relaxing up north at the Wee House, and playing a few games of golf here and there. Norma spent the last 15 years with Marilyn and Greg in their country home. She enjoyed traveling with Gail and Jim, especially their trip to Ireland. Her grandson Russell was born in August of 2000. He became the apple of her eye, and Russell adored his Grammy.


She will be greatly missed by her loving daughters, Gail (James Martin) Nelson, Eau Claire; Marilyn (Gregory) Teske, Hamburg; grandson, Russell Teske; 2 brothers, Linford (Dorothy) Thornton, Colombia, MO, and Richard (Mary) Thornton, Bella Vista, AR; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Jean Branding and Kay Maxwell.


A memorial service celebrating Norma’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009, at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Burial will be private at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.


Memorials may be dedicated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
