Norman Grosinske

April 9, 1925 — July 23, 2010

Norman Arnold Grosinske, Wausau, 85, died July 23, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Birnamwood (Shawano County) WI, April 9th, 1925, to the late August and Bertha (Kraege) Grosinske.

A veteran of World War ll, he entered the Marine Corp. in April of 1943 and served until April of 1946. As part of the 28th Regiment, 5th Division (H&S Co.-Communications Unit), he left Camp Tarawa, Hawaii and landed on the island of Iwo Jima, where his job was to help set up lines of communication before and after the capture of Mount Suribachi.

After returning home, he married Dorothea Jahnke, his wife of 51 years. He attended and graduated from the Industrial Training Institute in Chicago and was employed by Hoffer Glass Co. for 35 years before his retirement in 1985.

Although not much of a traveler after the War, he and Dorothea enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise and road trips through the western states of Colorado and New Mexico and around Lake Superior. He loved photography, taking many pictures during their travels, portraiture-type photos of family members and wedding pictures. He enjoyed reading about mechanical things and all aspects of the history of World War ll. A day wouldn't go by without finishing the daily crossword and other puzzles. He had a special talent for memorizing and sharing jokes and original, wholesome limericks for family and friends. In the earlier years, he spent many peaceful hours trout fishing on the Plover and Red Rivers.

Norman is survived by daughters, Dee (Roger) Zimmermann, and Kathy Boxhorn; three granddaughters, Robin Zimmermann, Christine Boxhorn and Rebecca Boxhorn; and sister Laura (Herbert) Seehafer.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea, in 1997; 4 sisters, Esther Grosinske, Alma Mueller, Leona Grosinske, Helen Hering; and brother, Louis Grosinske.

Services were held Tuesday July 27th at Restlawn Memorial Park, with Reverend Bruce Lamont, of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Wausau officiating. Full military honors were provided by the American Legion Montgomery Plant Post #10, Wausau.
