passed away on

at Wausau Manor.
Orton was born
September 27, 1906
in
Granite Falls
,
Minn.
, to the late Lewis and Mathilda (Feroe) Enstad. He married Segrid Njus on
July 3, 1935
in
New York City
.
Ort received his Bachelor’s degree at
St.
Olaf
College
and his MA degree from
Columbia
University
with additional post graduate studies.
Orton began his career in education as a history teacher in
Medford
in 1932.
In 1944 they moved to
Wausau
where he taught history at
Wausau
Senior High School
.
He then became a guidance counselor at
Horace
Mann
School
for 24 years, retiring in 1971.
Orton was an active member of
Immanuel
Lutheran
Church
where he served as a council member and church president.
He was a member of the Wausau Noon Kiwanis Club since 1944 with perfect attendance for 50 years holding many offices including District Governor of
Wisconsin-Upper Michigan District. Orton was a member of
Wisconsin
and Wausau Retired Educators Association since 1971 and served as state director. He was a member of the Wisconsin Council for Social Studies Organization as well as the national, state and local Guidance and Personnel Association. Ort was a member of the Sons of Norway,
Marathon County Commission on Aging and the Northern Area Agency on Aging.
He was an avid member of the Wausau Curling Club, curling into his late 90’s.
Orton is survived by nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Segrid and daughter Tanya Marie.
Also preceding him were his parents, one brother Juel Enstad, and three sisters; Gladys Nellermoe, Luella Dumas and Myrtle Johnson.
Funeral services will be at
11 a.m.

. Pastor Sean Motley will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is Sunday, November 9
th
from
3 - 6 p.m.
at the Helke Funeral Home,
Wausau
and at the church on Monday from
10 a.m.
until the time of services.
