Peter Lyle Hintz, 69, Wausau, died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Pete was born October 16, 1945 in Wausau to the late Edward and Freida (Hetzel) Hintze. He graduated from Wausau High School and joined the Air Force. While serving his country, Pete married the love of his life, Pamela Scheild, at St. Paul's UCC in Wausau. The couple was blessed with two sons, Edward and Scott. Following his honorable discharge from service, Pete worked for Wausau Metals first in the factory and later drove interstate trucking. At this point in his life, Pete went to Northcentral Tech and earned his degree in Electrical Mechanical Engineering and began working for Pitney Bowes on copier/fax repair at Wausau Insurance.
Pete could be known as a very strong willed, but he was deep down a very inquisitive person who loved to work with his hands. As a younger man, he raced stock cars in the area and kept his passion for racing throughout his life. The consummate handy man, Pete was a very good woodworker taking pride in working on many projects for his family. He came from a long line of rail road engineers for the
Milwaukee Rail Road, being the first to break from tradition Pete never lost his fascination with trains and they remained one of his favorite subjects. In the fall, Pete enjoyed heading out to the deer camp and spending time with his sons bonding.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Pam; sons, Ed and Scott (Kim) Hintz; granddaughter, McKenna Hintz; brother, Gordy Hintze and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Hintze and sister, Sharon Holcomb.
