Philip Splitt

November 9, 1930 — September 26, 2010

Philip L. (Phil) Splitt, 79, passed away on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at Allison House, under the care of Ministry Home Health Care Hospice Services after a lengthy battle with Parkinson Disease and Dementia.

Phil was born on November 9, 1930 in Clintonville, WI to the late Edward and Agatha (Raddatz) Splitt. On May 7, 1955 he married Helen Gardner at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Wausau after meeting at Drott Manufacturing. They have been blessed with children, Dan, Mary, and Cathy.

Phil was employed at Drott/Case Mfg for 33 years, retiring in 1986 in Pennsylvania at the Philadelphia Regional Parts Depot as Customer Relations Manager. Phil and Helen were transferred there in 1983. Returning to Wisconsin, Phil held part-time jobs at Dun Rite, Hadley Office and Wick’s Lumber. He was a “jack of all trades” and gave 110% to all jobs he tackled. He possessed a strong work ethic that showed in his dedication to family, home, and job. Phil was known nationwide for his parts expertise and traveled extensively for Drott/Case. He built his family their first home completely by himself. He also built a cottage and later helped build their two other homes. His woodworking was flawless in his younger years.

Phil was a past PTA president at D.C. Everest High School, Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity, Wausau Area Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee, secretary for several years for the WI Valley Supervisors Council, treasurer of the Boy Scout Council, treasurer and coach of Little League, and executive committee member of the CIMA Parts Management Council. Phil was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and served on the church council, ushered, and chaired the building and grounds committee.

Phil’s hobbies and interests included woodworking, hunting, fishing, golf (E.A.G.A), bowling, and camping at North Forest Campground. Phil and Helen enjoyed playing cards, dining, and dancing with all their special friends. Watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports and school activities was very special and he was proud.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife, Helen of 55 years, son, Dan (Betty) Splitt of Sun Prairie, daughters, Mary Splitt of Weston, and Cathy (Chris) Mayer of Des Moines, IA, four grandchildren, Kari Splitt of Indianapolis, IN, Jon Splitt of Winona, MN, Michelle Mayer (fiancé-Nick Brannen) of Des Moines, IA, and Matt Mayer of Des Moines, IA., his brother, Eugene (Nancy) Splitt of Wausau and his sister, Carolyn (Jack) Jacobson of Schofield. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, Eunice and sister Marjorie Finch.

Phil’s family is grateful for the loving care he received by management and staff at Allison House for almost 4 years and also the wonderful care he received from Ministry Home Health Care Hospice. Thanks to all our family and friends who gave us support during this long illness.
