Phyllis Henry

May 2, 1937 — March 4, 2017

In the stillness of the night, Phyllis A. Henry, 79, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital with her caring and loving family by her side.

Phyllis was born in Rib Mountain to Herman and Vivian (Olson) Aschebrook on May 2, 1937. Her early years included attending a one-room schoolhouse, Mosinee Hill School, and later graduating from Wausau High School.

In 1956 she married Hugo Penn Jr. in Wausau, and together they had three sons: Jeffrey (Julie) of Wausau, Gregory (Carol) of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Bradley of Wausau. Hugo passed away in 1985. She enjoyed being grandmother to her five grandchildren: Brittany, Jordan, Taylor, Kailey, and Jazmine Penn.

Phyllis met Thomas Henry and later married in 1987 in Wausau.

She enjoyed her work for 53 years at the Marathon County Public Library in Wausau where Phyllis shared her true passion for books and helping children discover a lifetime of endless stories. She impacted many children's lives thru many hours volunteering at Children's Fest. Phyllis was determined to help others expecting nothing in return while volunteering with various organizations such as Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Rib Mountain Fest. After retiring, Phyllis enjoyed volunteering, never hesitating to give her time to a good cause. She volunteered at G.D. Jones and Maine School Libraries. She also delivered books to the homebound and loved the challenge of putting a great puzzle together. Phyllis enjoyed watching her grandsons play basketball at West and granddaughters' dance recitals. She always loved spending time with her beloved grandchildren and was especially gifted in helping with math skills or anything they needed help with. She misses them all.

Phyllis will be remembered as a loving and caring person.

Survivors include her husband; children; grandchildren; brothers, Sherman "Lyle" (Phyllis) of Wausau and Arleigh (Carol) of Rhinelander; sister, Sharon (Wes) Manser of Rhinelander; numerous nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

She is further survived by Hugo Penn's sister, Angeline Baneck; brother, Robert (Kathy) Penn; and sister-in-law, Lanette Penn.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Hugo; brother, Orville; Hugo's sisters and brothers-in-law, Beatrice (Wilber) Kramer and Lorna (Eldred) Thiel; Hugo's brother, Virgil Penn; Hugo's sister, Bonnie Koenig; and Hugo's brothers-in-law, Melvin Baneck and Richard Dahm.
