Raymond Bentz, 86, of Wausau passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born January 21, 1923 in Wausau to the late Emil and Anna (Lange) Bentz.
Ray was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. After he returned from service, Ray married Elizabeth Rhodes on April 8, 1949 in Wausau. He worked at JI Case as a welder fit-up until retiring in 1982. Ray and Elizabeth raised their family of six and always supported them especially watching their softball games where they were known as “Ma and Pa B”. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, and attending parades. Ray loved to tinker and always tried to invent a better way. He was a self taught handyman and could fix or make just about anything. If a friend or neighbor ever needed help, they could always depend on Ray.
Survivors include his six children, Ronald (Charlotte) of Mosinee, Gerald (Gail) of Phoenix, AZ, Pamela (William) Bloom of Wausau, David (Sandy Jahnke) of Wausau, Todd (Kim) of Lime Springs, IA, Brian of Wausau, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by Elizabeth on March 10, 1993, four sisters, and four brothers.
Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Reverend Daniel Solofra will officiate. Burial will be 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau with full military honors conducted by VFW Burns Post #388 in which Ray was a member.
