Raymond O. Schewe, 86, of Wausau, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.
Ray was born August 15, 1922 in Wausau to the late Paul and Elizabeth (Steidinger) Schewe. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of The American Legion. Ray married Jean Kretlow on November 5, 1949 in Wausau. Ray worked at the former Citizens Bank and Trust for 53 years, 4 months, an accomplishment he was proud of. He joined the Lions on June 1, 1963, and had maintained over 40 years of perfect attendance. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church. He enjoyed working in his garden, particularly with his raspberries.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Barbara Schewe of Green Bay; sister-in-law, Grace Schewe of Wausau; and three nephews; Richard (Phyllis) Schewe of Big Pine Key, Fla., Donald (Marlene) Schewe of Wausau, and James (Mary) Schewe of Tomahawk.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, in 2007; his brother, Arthur Schewe; his sister, Josephine Kettunen; and his brother-in-law, Paul Kettunen.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 6, 2009 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Wausau. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday July 5, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, and Monday from 10 AM until the time of services at the church.
