Regina "Jean" Wegner passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, just shy of her 95th birthday. Jean was born April 6, 1913, in Glidden, WI, to the late Anton and Amelia (Eder) Killinger. Along with her five brothers and nine sisters, she worked hard on the family farm. On July 1, 1939, Jean married Herbert Wegner in Milwaukee. They began raising their family in Milwaukee, where Herbert was in the tool and die industry. The Wegner family purchased their own family farm in Spencer. Jean was known for the wonderful food she cooked for family and friends along with her talent for sewing and needlework . She took great pride in growing her own vegetables and flowers. Herb and Jean retired to Otter Lake in Elcho, WI, where they continued gardening and took great enjoyment in the many visitors who came.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert of Wausau, two daughters, Pauline (Ted) Schnese of Stoughton, Kathryn ( Dr. Earl) Zabel of Wausau, one son, Paul (Sharon) Wegner of Eleva, 6 grandchildren, Therese (Michael) Magnus, Nicole (Scott) Bruer, Christopher (Jenny) Zabel, Marla (fiancAC.- Jason Kolbeck) Zabel, Wendy (Dan) Engum and Lana (Loren) Westphal, 5 great grandchildren, Phillip, Natalie, Benjamin, Riley, Reece, and two sisters, Amelia Messier of Sacramento, CA and Gertrude Myott of Atlanta, Ga. Jean was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Schnese, five brothers, and seven sisters.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2008 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Wausau. Father Daniel Hackel will officiate. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the Butternut Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
