Richard McEvoy

December 14, 1918 — August 12, 2009

Richard J. McEvoy, 90, of Wausau, left this life on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at Colonial Manor Rehabilitation Center, and entered into eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.


Mr. McEvoy was born December 14, 1918, in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, Scotland, to the late Henry and Marion (Bruce) McEvoy. The family immigrated to the U.S. when he was 9 years old He was united in marriage on July 1, 1944, to Ruth Bertha Hansen in Chicago, IL.  The family lived in Elgin, IL for thirty years. He was an active member of Grace Evangelical Church in Elgin. Though he never finished high school, he worked his way up to become an electrical engineer for Kinney Electric Company, where he worked for 44 years until his retirement in 1986.  Richard and Ruth then moved to Wausau, where they had lived together until Ruth's death on February 15, 2008. Richard and Ruth celebrated sixty-three wonderful years together prior to her passing.


Early in his life, Richard placed his trust in Jesus Christ alone to be his Savior, and that influenced all he did. He and Ruth raised three children, and in later years delighted in spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a father and grandfather who was always there for his family. He was known for his generosity, and was always ready and willing to help anyone that needed it. During his retirement years, he assisted his youngest son in the beekeeping business, helped his children build homes, donated his time in the construction of Immanuel Baptist Church in Rib Mountain, and volunteered during many winters at Camp Gilead in Florida. He especially enjoyed fishing and woodwork, and his homemade projects decorate the homes of his children and grandchildren.


Along with his wife, Ruth, he was predeceased by his sister, Jean Blachley.


He is survived by his loving family including his son, Henry (Jan) McEvoy of Phelps, WI; daughter, Patricia (Richard) Worden of Moedling, Austria; son, Richard D. (Kathleen) McEvoy of Wausau; eleven grandchildren, Jeff McEvoy, Jason McEvoy, Gretchen (Eric) Ulferts,  Jennie (Lance) Kelly, Hannah (Sam) Reyes, William (Kim) Worden, Jonathan (Michelle) Worden, Suzanne Worden, R. Steven (Debbie) McEvoy, Kirstin McEvoy, and Benjamin (Megan) McEvoy; sixteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Isabelle O'Connell of Frankfort, IL.


There will be a memorial service at Immanuel Baptist Church, 5100 Hummingbird Road, Wausau, on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at 12:00 p.m. Dr. James F. Engle, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church, will be officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at the church and continue until the time of services.
