Robert “Bob” Ruether, 85, was called to his heavenly home on July 5, 2024, while under the care of Aspirus Hospice Care at Mount View Care Center.
Bob was born August 11, 1938, to Walter and Ellen (Bergstrand) Ruether. He married Lois Sommerfeldt on January 26, 1963, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where they remain members. Together, Bob and Lois had three amazing children. He worked for Murray Machinery and later retired from Crescent Electric in 2004. Bob enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He also loved to bowl and play both dartball and softball. He was a huge Wisconsin sports fan, always cheering on the Packers, Brewers, Bucks and Badgers.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Lois; children, Laurie (Paul) Hitts, Tammy (Rich) Beilke, and Brian (Wendy Schneider) Ruether; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; siblings, Bonnie (Sid) Elford, Jim (Carol) Ruether, and Penny Ruether; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan (Jim) Wilde; brother, Tom Ruether; and in-laws.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 703 Flieth Street, Wausau, with a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service. Rev. Jeffrey Mahnke will officiate. Bob will then be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
We wish to thank the staff at Mount View Care Center and Aspirus Hospice Care for the kindness and compassion they showed to Bob and our family.
