Robert Hempfer

Robert "Bob" Hempfer, 62, of Rib Mountain passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 while on vacation in Ft. Myers, FL.
He was born March 31, 1953 in Wausau to the late Edwin and Clara (Greene) Hempfer. After graduating from Wausau West High School in 1971, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served overseas until 1975. Working with his mother Clara, they were insurance agents at Hempfer Insurance in Rib Mountain. He was sole owner of the agency from 1985 until 2008. He took great pride in caring for his clients always helping any way he could.
In his earlier years, Bob played softball, baseball and enjoyed league bowling at Tanglewood Lanes. Even though it was an expectation of actually deer hunting or fishing in a boat on opening day, Bob found greater pleasure in the camaraderie, Poker games and the stories shared with his buddies at his cabin Up North. As an owner of the Green Bay Packers, Bob followed his team with a passion. He loved March Madness and was a huge fan of the Badgers.
Survivors include his brother, Ronald of Rib Mountain, sister, Sandy (Ed) Cveykus of Kronenwetter, nieces, Beth, Shanna and Callie, nephew, Brent, and Bob's special grandniece and nephew, Tianna and Tayson.
The funeral mass will be celebrated at Noon, Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 221 S. 28th Ave., Wausau. Father Robert Thorn will officiate. Entombment will be in Holy Angels Mausoleum at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Wausau. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St. Wausau and at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. Full military rites will be conducted by the VFW Burns Post #388 at church immediately following Mass. You may sign our family guest book at helke.com.

Bob's deep voice and rough laughter will always be with us. He will be forever in our hearts.
