Robert D. Vander Wall, 77, of Wausau, passed away at Embers Group Home under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services. He was born to Frank and Ada (Krikke) Vander Wall on August 10, 1936, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Robert lived with his family until he was five years old. He grew up being cared for at Coldwater State Home in Michigan. He lived at Northern Center in Chippewa Falls and at North Central Health Care in Wausau. Robert resided in a group home for 25 years of his adult life under the care of Brian Grosskreutz and most recently at Embers Group Home.
Robert participated in activities and projects through the Northern Valley Workshop. He enjoyed these activities and also liked bowling. He had understanding and persistence that would show through to his family and caregivers.
Robert is survived by his sister, Harriet (Howard) Iwen; niece, Heidi; and three great-nieces, Rita, Lisa, and Kia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ada.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013, at Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau, with Rev. Philip Schneider officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, town of Texas.
