Roberta Velma Netzel, age 91 of Wausau died August 18, 2013 at Artisan Assisted Living Center. She was born September 28, 1921 at Mount Pleasant, Iowa, daughter of the late Joseph and Maude (Anthony) Cazey. She graduated from Farmington High School, Farmington Iowa in June 1939. After the death of her father, Roberta and her mother moved to Peoria, Illinois where she attended and graduated from Browns Peoria School of Business. After graduation, Roberta was employed by CIT Corporation, later transferring to Madison, Wisconsin. After World War II, she was offered a position of Training Supervisor and traveled a four state area. It was on one of these training visits to the Wausau office that she met her future husband Earl W. Netzel. They were married January 25, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church, Wausau, Wisconsin. Earl died unexpectedly in 1966. Roberta was most recently employed at Wausau Insurance Companies, as an Executive Secretary, retiring in 1987. Years ago Roberta belonged to Wausau Wander Jacks, a camping club, and after her retirement she enjoyed her "cookie bunch" friends at Zion Lutheran Church. She loved to knit and read, but mainly her time and interests were focused on her immediate family and her beloved pets.
She is survived by one daughter Jacqueline McLaughlin (Dennis) of Wausau, three grandchildren, David McLaughlin (Jennifer), Shannon Fust (Tyler), and Sean McLaughlin (Fiance-Kara D'Antonio). She is also survived by three great grandchildren, David and Jennifer's children, Landon, Mallory, and Corbin and was very excited about the expected arrival of Shannon and Tyler's baby. She is also survived by a sister-in-law Arleen Netzel, Neenah, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were also her half sisters and brothers, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and nephew.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Zion Lutheran Church, 709 6th St., Wausau. Reverend Ted Gulhaugen will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
