Roderick Donald Goree, 60, of Wausau, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, January 19, 2017.
Rod was born June 22, 1956, in Appleton, WI, son of the late Donald and Betty (Berholtz) Goree. He attended special education for several years in Wausau and then moved to an apartment for the handicap. Rod dearly loved his work at Northern Valley Work Shop where he enjoyed being around people. He loved animals, especially cats and dogs, working outside doing yardwork, cutting trees and participating in Special Olympics. He also volunteered at the local humane society where he got to spend time with his animals.
Rod is survived by a brother Scott (Diane) Goree of Wausau, nephews, Nicholas and Kevin Goree, uncle Richard Goree of Appleton and his guardian and friend Karen Habeck of Wausau.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Joseph.
Friends may visit for a memorial gathering on Friday, February 3, 2017 from 4-6 p.m., at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau. A private family service will be held, Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Appleton Highland Memorial Park Chapel.
