Roger Wanner

Roger Wanner was born July 11, 1934 in Mountain, WI to the late Phillip and Alice (McDonnel) Wanner Sr. Growing up on the family farm in Mountain he learned the value of hard work and family. That same appreciation for family showed in the love he had for his wife, Harriet, their children and grandchildren. His hard work was evident in the various jobs Roger enjoyed such as dairy and ginseng farming, auctioneering, real estate sales, car sales for Brickner Motors and driving truck for County Materials until his retirement.
Roger married Harriet Henrichs on May 16, 1953 at Zion Lutheran Church, town of Rib Falls. They raised four children, Jeffrey (Sherri) Wanner of Wausau, Randy (Charlene) Wanner of Wausau, Patti (Gregg) Good of Springfield, Ill, and Gina (Roland) Zernecke of Wausau. When Roger wasn't working or helping out with the kids, you could find him deer hunting, playing Sheepshead, or listening to Polka music.
At the age of 77, Roger passed away Monday, December 26, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Survivors also include his nine grandchildren, Raine (Randy) Gardner, Pierce Wanner, Samantha Wanner, Andrew "AJ", Thomas and Tucker Good, Alice, Megan and Matthew Zerneke, one great grandson, Declan Gardner, three brothers, Phillip (Lucille) Wanner of Clintonville, Robert (Sandy) Wanner of Green Bay, Donald (Judy) Wanner of Mountain, two sisters, Phyllis Hatfield of Mountain, Romaine (David) Brundage of Traverse City, MI, and his sister-in-law, Elaine Sonnentag of Marathon. Roger was preceded in death by three brother-in-laws, David Hatfield, Clinton Koch, Fred Staffin and three sisters, Margaret Koch, Bernadine Gronmark and Mabel Wanner.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church, town of Maine. Reverend Dan Sire will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Helke Funeral Home, Wausau and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
