Roman Kurtzweil

Roman Kurtzweil was a man of the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, cutting wood, feeding deer and was always available to go fishing with his brother Tony. In his earlier years, he and his wife Helen operated a dairy farm, turkey farm, and raised Ginseng.


At the age of 89, Roman passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Our House Assisted Living, Wausau.


He was born April 25, 1920 in the town of Emmet to the late Edward and Amelia (Martin) Kurtzweil. He married Helen Lang at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marathon on August 7, 1943. After retiring, they spent time traveling all over the world and even met the late Pope John Paul II.


Survivors include five children, Gary (Patricia) of Rib Mountain, Carol (William) Daup of Burton, MI, Wayne (Mary) of Wausau, Jeffrey (Susan) of Wausau, Chrys (Lorie) of Irma, 15 grandchildren, Gina (Jon) Schuster, Jon, Craig (Tami), Eric (Jodi), Joel Weyh, Ryan (Angie), Scott (Kellie), Corey (Danielle), Kevin (Anitra), Andy, Joni (fiancé-Joe Gehrke), Curtis, Jenny (Jeremiah) Holzbauer, Nicky, and Sara, 19 great grandchildren, Paul, Kelly, Jennarae, Cohler, Dominic, Thomas, Megan, Jaimie, Jacob, Katherine, Anthony, Alex, Brenden, Makenna, Scotty, Nickolas, Clara, Jordan, and Jonah, 2 brothers, Edwin (Angie) and Thomas (Shirley), and 5 sisters, Margaret (Thomas) Lirette, Rita Prihoda, Elizabeth Kaiser, Cecilia Schoenfuss, and Verene (John) Stark. Roman was preceded in death by Helen on August 29, 1990, an infant son, Ronald, daughter, Charlene Summers, granddaughter, Michelle Griffin, grandson, Jason, sister, Dorothy Rasmussen, and two brothers, Tony and Donald.


The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Wausau. Father Gerald Pehler OFM Cap.will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Halder. Visitation will be Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
