Roman was born June 13th 1920, in Wausau, the son of the late Michael and Selma (Sczutkowski) Lenard. During World War II, Roman enlisted in the Air Force and served his country overseas until his honorable discharge in November 1945. On November 11th 1950, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Schoenfeldt, in Milwaukee. After a year of marriage, the couple returned home to Wausau, where they raised their family.
Many weekends were spent making memories at the family cottage on Lake Norrie. Roman's hobbies included collecting coins and searching for treasures with his metal detector. He was a resourceful man who loved working with his hands. Roman worked as a self-employed carpenter, managing his own business in Merrill, WI. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man who was very proud of his military service and Polish heritage.
On December 15th 2013, Roman Raymond Leonard, died at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, in King, WI.
He will be fondly and lovingly remembered by his two children, Richard (Roxanna) Leonard, and Linda (John) Esker; four grandsons, Richard Leonard, Benno Leonard, Robert Sullivan, and Shawn (Melissa) Sullivan; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Owen Sullivan; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, on January 22nd 2005; and nine siblings, Helena, Frank, John, Nikolas, Andrew, Theodor, Teofila "Phyl", Walter, and James.
A private graveside service will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Grand Avenue, Wausau, with full military honors provided by the V.F.W. Burns Post #388, Wausau.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Wisconsin Veterans Home, at King, for their loving care of Roman throughout the final years of his life.
