Ronald E. Blume, 76, Wausau, died peacefully Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Benedictine Living Center, Wausau.
Ron was born June 20, 1940 in Wausau to the late Felix and Anna (Wenzel) Blume. He was raised in Marathon, graduating from Marathon High School in 1958. On August 4, 1962, Ronald was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jean Shnowske, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mosinee. The couple was blessed with two sons; Mark and Steve.
Ron was good father, husband, son, and friend who valued hard work and a job done well. He loved family dearly. He was a born "tinkerer" who always loved to take things apart…just to understand how they worked. If anyone was looking for Ron, he could usually be found at one of his three favorite places; under the hood of a car, in the garage at his workbench, or enjoying the views of Lake Wausau. There was never an engine, car, or piece of machinery he didn't think he could fix…with the first step of that process always being to completely disassemble it before rebuilding it again from the ground up. If his friends, family members (and many times complete strangers) ever needed a spare part for a lawn mower, a specific tool, or "advice" on how to fix something – they knew to talk with Ron Blume. In his later years, he completely rebuilt a damaged Bobcat and used it with glee to plow snow, tow boats, and move just about anything that wasn't cemented to the ground. It was his pride and joy and he referred to it as "Grandpa's Toy".
Ron is survived by beloved wife of 54 years, Jean; Mark (Denise) of Waunakee, WI and Steve (Marcie) Blume of Minneapolis, MN as well as grandchildren; Alex, Callie, Tyler, Jaeda and Brady; and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Arlene Custer.
