Roy “Bud” Morgan was born November 19, 1926 in Wausau to the late Roy and Lydia (Gebhard) Morgan. He is a 1944 graduate of Wausau High School. After graduating, Bud joined the Army, serving in the Phillipines during WWII and in Japan after the war ended. On August 12, 1950, Bud married Gladys Kmen at First English Lutheran Church, Wausau. He worked for Wisconsin Public Service, retiring after 33 years in the line department. After 47 devoted years of marriage, Bud bid Gladys farewell when she died July 20, 1998.
Bud was an avid hunter and competition shooter. He was a Benefactor Member of the National Rifle Association and a proud supporter of the NRA's Golden Eagle program. For years Bud shot in competitions and as his son Sam became involved he moved into a coaching and support role. Bud and Gladys ran many shooting competitions in Wausau including several state championships, and they were instrumental in setting up 2 target shooting ranges in the Wausau area. Putting his skills to use, Bud loved to hunt game not only in Wisconsin, but he traveled to Wyoming, Alaska, the Northwest Territories, Labrador, Newfoundland, and Africe to hunt. Bud also saw the value of sharing his love of precision shooting and reloading and rarely missed the opportunity to pass that knowledge along. Roy “Bud” Morgan, 83, Wausau, died Monday, September 27, 2010 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Bud is survived by his son, Sam (Barb) Morgan, Wausau; beloved grandsons, Mark and Tim Morgan, Wausau; and special friend, Lue Goetsch. He is also survived by Gladys' two sisters Joyce Weiss, Ruth Kruzan and their families and his faithful companion Gretchen, his German Shepherd.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 1, 2010 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Pastor Erik Olson will be officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 30, 2010 at Helke Funeral Home, resuming at 10:00 AM on Friday until the time of the service.
