Roy Thorne, 88, of Wausau passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017.
He was born September 19, 1929 to the late Jess and Pearl (Wood) Thorne. On August 19, 1950, Roy married Phyllis Ecker in Antigo. They made their home in Wausau raising their five children, Steve, Mark, Debra, Diane and Victoria. Roy owned Wausau Trim Shop. He was a skilled craftsman using his artistry to design custom upholstery patterns for automotive restoration. Retiring in 2002, Roy made many friends during his fifty years of service. Whether it was gardening, hunting, trap shooting, raising beef cattle on his hobby farm or making wood, Roy loved being outdoors. He had a special gift of singing and enjoyed being a member of the Wausau Barbershoppers.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Wausau, five children, Steve (Debra) Thorne of Athens, Mark (Kristine) Thorne of Valencia, CA, Debra (Jerome Birt) Thorne of Savage, MN, Diane (Jim Herbst) Thorne of Sun Prairie, Victoria (David Erickson) Thorne-Erickson of Oconomowoc, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was further preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sophia Erickson, four brothers and six sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 4, 2017 at Rib Mountain Lutheran Church, 3010 Eagle Ave., Wausau. Reverend Tim Swanson will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
