Roy T. Traynor, 84, died peacefully on September 12, 2016 at Colonial Manor, Wausau, WI. Throughout his life, Roy helped many through his business, the Traynor Law Office, and through his community work. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Roy, son of Thomas and Mae (Neubert) Traynor, was born July 27, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY. Roy attended Queens College in NY, until he was drafted during the Korean War. Roy served in the 82nd Airborne Division and after the war completed his Bachelor of Arts in political science. He obtained his law degree at the University of Wisconsin. In 1968, he established the Traynor Law Office, located on S. 3rd Ave in Wausau.
Throughout his life, Roy was active in the community. In the 1980's, he served on the Hwy 51 task force and was influential in expanding Hwy 51. In 1998, he received the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award. Roy also served as Commander of the American Legion, where he was active in establishing a memorial for Vietnam veterans.
Roy was a nature lover and enjoyed spending time at Loon Lake in Elcho, WI. He was also a Packers and Badgers fan. He was a lifelong learner and an avid reader of history and politics.
Roy's wife, Betty (Niemi) Traynor, and son, George Traynor, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter Carol Ellerbee and grandson Steven Sickler, daughter Lisa Traynor, son-in-law Paul Hintz, and grandson Emmett Hintz, and his special friend, Dawn Troyer.
On Saturday October 1, 2016, there will be a visitation with family at 9:30am and a memorial service at 10:30am; both will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau. Online condolences may be made at www.helke.com.
