Ruby Ament

Ruby Ament, 103, Wausau, passed away Friday, March 15, 2012 at Marywood Nursing Home, Wausau.
She was born October 1, 1909 in Marengo, IL. to the late Harry and Lucy (Barross) Smith. On July 1, 1933, she married Ervin Ament, in Elgin, IL. He preceded her in death in 2005. Ruby graduated from Merrill High School, and later earned a teaching certificate from Lincoln County Normal School. She taught at varies schools in central and northern Wisconsin, and retired from teaching in 1974 from Crescent Elementary School in Oneida County. They also farmed in northern Lincoln County until 1974.
Ruby enjoyed teaching, and education. She would continue to teach even after retirement to her grandchildren. Spending time with them was very important to her. She taught them how to read, Play cards, and play some educational games to make learning more fun to them. Ruby also liked to spend her time cooking, baking, shopping and going on little "excursions" to various locations. She was also very knowledgeable about plants, and flowers.
Ruby is survived by her son, Gerald (Dolly) Ament, Rhinelander; two daughters, Janet (Donald) Baltz, Merrill, Gail (Robert) Schneider, Mesa, AZ; one sister-in-law, Joyce Smith, Silver Lake, WI; five grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers, and two sisters.
A funeral service will be held 11A.M. Friday, March 22, 2013 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Pastor Dave Johnson will officiate. A visitation time will take place the same day at 10A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Garden of Eternal Rest, Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
